Today I'm going to talk about the Colosseum. So why does the Colosseum look half broken? Well It was broken because a major earthquake toppled part of the outer wall, and the fallen stone was taken away to use for other buildings. The Roman Colosseum has lasted for over 2000 years, although it’s partially broken. The Colosseum had been built on the site of an artificial lake, underneath it ran channels that could deliver water from a nearby aqueduct to flood the arena floor until the was deep enough that real ships were able to float on it.
The Roman Colosseum was made from thousands of slaves. The Vespasian died before it was even finished! The Colosseum was opened by his Son, Emperor Titus. The Colosseum is the height of a 12 story house. When it is completed, it could fit 50k people! It is made of stone, bricks and concrete. The first games in the Colosseum lasted for 100 days! Thousands of animals fought and were killed. Criminals were executed in the Colosseum as well.
Gladiators were very popular, were meant to entertain people. Successful gladiators could be celebrities .It helped keep the Emperor Popular with the people of Rome. The sea battles were only held in the Colosseum for a short period of time. Fights and hunts were held for hundreds of years. Construction began on the Colosseum in 72 AD… under the direction of the Emperor Vespasian
Restoration of the Colosseum began in the 1800s and continues to this day. For centuries the Colosseum crumbled gradually each day. Originally called the Fl avian Amphitheatre.
“Did you know that Egypt holds over 100 pyramids identified?
Egyptians believed that by burying the deceased with the organs, they can rejoin in the after life. Egyptians kept burying people with things they think were ‘important to them’. Although it backfired as wild animals kept digging up the sand, and thieves stole the loot, that's when Pyramids came.
Pyramids were created and this is so the Pharaoh's valuable loot doesn’t get stolen as you can see from the first paragraph. Pyramids were made from a material called ‘limestone’, Limestone is made mostly by something called ‘calcite carbonate’ . Pyramids were made by hand! They were made by hand because in the past the technology humans developed didn’t exist.
As you know Pyramids were created for tombs, then this Pharaoh named KHufu created the largest pyramid in the world, called the ‘ Great Pyramid Of Giza ‘. The Great pyramid of Khufu is one of 104 pyramids in Egypt with superstructure. The Great Pyramid Of Giza is one of seven wonders and it’s the only one that exists till this day!

Letter Writing
When Jacinda Ardern came and visited us, she asked our class if we could write letters to her and talk about problems we see in our school/community or New Zealand. Think very carefully about these problems and what you believe we can do to solve them. Once you have finished writing your letter I will send them to the prime minister.
Date: 2/03/2021
Dear Prime Minister
Body of your Letter
1st Paragraph -
My name is Maddison, and i’m from pt england school. Room one is learning about how we can help with our community and like problems. Personally I love you being our prime minister of New Zealand and you're doing a great job with the work you're doing.
2nd Paragraph -
What problems are there? Well our problems are plastic pollution.
Why is it a problem? The problem is that the plastic is going into the sea and the sea animals think it’s food and they eat it and they eventually die because of our plastic. Also did you know that it takes 450 year for plastic to decompose.
What can the government or New Zealand do to help? Well they can try to start making plastic decompose faster like up to days for it to decompose instead of years.
3rd Paragraph -
Something you really like in another country/city you would like here. Nothing really because our country is fine as it is.

Yours Sincerely,
Maddison,

Today the 25th of February team 5 and most of the teachers met Jacinda Ardern and her body guard. When she first arrived it was really exciting because I had to follow her around with the camera. When she got out of the car Simon and Kauri greeted her and then she walked over and met the prefects and she turned around and waved at me, after that she started walking over to the senior block. When she got their the seniors started singing and then Mr Burt said a speech and then she said a speech. After that it was time for lunch, she walked over to my class room and handed out the lunches to the kids. She talked to all the class rooms then went out and walked around the school. When she got to the gate we set up the camera and Nadia and Aye interviewed her. Then she walked to the staff room and talked to the teachers a little bit then she left... Hopefully she could come again to our school.
Thank you to Jacinda Ardern for coming to Pt England school we loved your visit.
